Illustration Friday: Faded
May 26th, 2012 § 5 Comments

It’s been incredibly warm here the past few days (it makes a lovely change!) so here’s a tree fading into a beautiful hazy summer day.
This is a mix of print and digital, I’d love to screen print this one day soon though.
This is a page taken from my children’s book : my troublesome cloud. Which you can read here!: http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/2116279
Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Illustration Friday: Shades

So.. Everything’s over and I’ve finally managed to have a weekend all to myself! (Spare time is like gold dust at the moment!) I’ve doodled an adorable red panda chillaxing in the shade for Illustration Friday and also because of the completion of all my current projects, including the Boy and the Bunnet! (You can buy the book here!) So anyway this red panda kind of feels a bit like a self portrait right now! I’m off now to enjoy the fleeting sunshine! (Spring’s nearly here!) xx

It’s been forever since my last post.. so much has been happening!
I’ve got lots of exciting news and things, but the most exciting of all, is that
‘The Boy and the Bunnet‘ (or Balach Na Bonaid!)
A brave boy, a wee bunnet, a big adventure.
(a children’s book illustration project that I’ve been delighted to be involved in, and working on for a while now with Celtic Connections and Big Sky)
…. is actually being performed as a musical! How cool is that?
You can get tickets here, and see more about the project here!
I’m actually coming up from Nottingham to see the play in Feburary, so exciting!
I completely can’t wait, and it’ll be so lovely to be back in Scotland!
That’s all for now folks, but watch this space!

I’d actually decided not to upload any of my pages of the two books I’m working on, mostly to keep it a suprise and so I can have a bit of an exciting reveal, but here’s a little peek at what i’ve been up to recently! It’s all likely to keep changing! I used pen, ink, oilbar, watercolour, crayons, and some digital magic:)
Foxy sneak peek!

Some brand spanking new recent development of my foxy book! Though this is very likely to be changing again soon! Still straightening out a few problems.
BUT I FINALLY have my character though! YAYNESS!
I’m actually unsure of the background above, Its quite distracting from the main focus of the fox, and I’ll probably alter the composition now too! It’s made from scanned leaves, papers, collage, patterns and textures are digitally edited, but the foxes and scent lines are watercolour and ink!
The natural pattern work is quite a new development for my work, so I need to make sure I don’t go over the top and use it on EVERYTHING! Probably will tone down the pattern work in this page too.
Don’t ask me about the cloud story..
The Boy and his Troublesome Cloud

For a new personal project I’ve been writing and illustrating a story about a boy who has a troublesome cloud. This cloud follows him everywhere, constantly raining, hailing, blowing him away, and basically causing a huge stress and annoyance.
I used my usual technique of pens and digital manipulation, but I also tried to highlight the effects of the cloud on the book and the (increasingly irritated) boy by scanning old paper that had been torn, wet and crumpled. This way I could represent the cloud in a physical way within the book.
