Bull Ring Yarnbomb!

I spotted  this yarn bombing happening in Birmingham Bull Ring today-
it’s utter GENIUS and definitely made passers-by smile! They gave him a wee warm jumper!  (it was pretty cold to be fair!)

Here it is on the news!

One for Sorrow, Two for Joy…

One for Sorrow..

One for Sorrow, Two for Joy, Three for a Girl, Four for a Boy, Five for Silver, Six for Gold, Seven for a Secret Never to be Told, Eight for a Message from Over the Sea…

Where I’m living right now is magpie, heron and crow country, but over  the weekend I spotted a huge amount of magpies, I was lucky enough to have my camera nearby and take some beautiful snaps before they all flew away.

On a random note, before I got here I also had a great fascination with silverfish as I hadn’t ever seen one, and I spotted one in my bathroom recently so I took the opportunity to take some photos of something that’s so alien to me!

I named him Farthing..

And to end on a much sunnier note, I took some beautiful photographs of stormy skies with a rainbow from my window.  I’ve been dedicating so much time on full time work and my private commissions I’ve not had much time to do any personal work. I’ll do an illustration Friday on here again soon I promise!

Somewhere over the rainbow..

I’ll be back soon with doodles and drawings!

Illustration Friday: Boundaries

RAWWWWWRRRRRR!!!!

For a while I’ve been wanting to get to grips with digital painting and get fully accustomed to my lovely new tablet, so without my safety net of pen, paper and pencil, I took the opportunity to illustrate ‘boundaries’ and get some fun patterns and marks into my sleepy smiley lion character.  I was just basically experimenting with effects and getting used to the process! I wanted to create an Autumnal pallet too to celebrate the introduction of fluffy woollen scarves and things back into my wardrobe!

I chose to illustrate a lion because of their well known strong territorial behaviour and also (..and possibly primarily..) because the Lion King 3D is being released soon! (yay!)  Ohhhhhh and another (rather awesome) reason for choosing the lion is because my art collective has found a lovely new home, and it’s FANTASTIC! Celebrations all round!

Thanks for visiting!

Stormy Clouds&Surprise Daisies!

Stormy clouds!

I think I’m a wee bit obsessed with documenting the weather after writing My Troublesome Cloud! I saw some rather epic clouds looming over our house with the sun peeking through and I thought it was time to get the new camera out again! I’ve been randomly pressing slow exposure and aperture buttons to see what happens…

Surprise daisy!

I don’t normally take photos of flowers (as they don’t tend to interest me massively..) but these aren’t just daisies (reading in M&S voice) these are super- lovely- surprise- visit- from- someone- awesome, beautifully-shiny- sunshine- love- daisies!

Living in the land of Robin Hood

So I’m now living in Nottingham!  AND There’s so many foxes here! (It’s a dream come true!) It’s a really beautiful city with art on every corner and when the sun’s shining there’s some rather exciting fountains I can’t wait to jump in!
My first thought was to get involved ASAP in the creative art scene here so when I stumbled upon this beautiful eclectic little gallery called ‘The Davenport Shop of Originality‘ I was so delighted when they said they’d exhibit my work! So now you’ll soon be able to find my Ugly Walruses, Celio and my foxes in Nottingham! (pictures to come soon!)
For a current commission for the Queens Hall Theatre in Edinburgh I took some inspirational reference photos of some amazing street musicians including this jazz player and his saxophone. I thought it was a pretty awesome photo so I thought I’d pop it up on here!

Sketchbook project tour 2011!

August 13th, 2010 § Leave a Comment

Sooo (thanks to Matt for drawing my attention to this project!) my pretty red sketchbook arrived today! Yay! My theme is ‘nighttime stories’. (I chose it in the end, I didn’t want to be stuck with ‘Dirigibles and submersibles’ or something..) so I think some cute nocturnal animals might be on their way! I might also be illustrating the fail that is meteor shower watching, when the sky has never been cloudier..    feeling inspired! xx

Ahh mega Deja vu!

*ahem* Well anyway here’s some awesome bizarre animal information video link as recommended by Alice!

‘Nick Baker’s Weird Creatures’  http://www.megavideo.com/?v=9KIHCYR4 it’s not exactly new..but totally worth the watch!

So, now some of my original choices of animals have been knocked off the list and replaced.. ( i feel a teeny bit mean!) like the (slightly gross) froghopper insect has now been replaced by this rather adorable looking creature-

the Fenneck Fox!  (Probably coming next up!)
